Actually, Sheriff Bob was named by Bogie's aunt (human type), who game him the toy.
Any resemblance to Ventura County Sheriff Bob Brooks is unintended -- and never occurred to me until you pointed out the coincidence in your comment.
On the other hand, Bogie's other chewtoy, "Yasser," is indeed named for the former head of the P.L.O. -- now sizzling and crackling with his buddies Adolf, Uncle Joe and Saddam.
