Peace, love and understanding

Check out Michelle Malkin's roundup of news on how Prop. 8 opponents are trying to convince voters that intolerance is unacceptable, and that Gay Marriage advocates are not wild-eyed extremists.

I'm certainly convinced.

I will start by stating my biases. I voted NO on Prop 8. I thought long and hard about it. I have more kids than I care to remember tonight (it was a rough night) and I had to think about the message that I wanted to send them.

My belief is that homosexuality is genetic and that there is a segment of the population who are homosexual. These people choose to engage in committed relationships just like heterosexual people. What they choose to call it does not matter to me.

Mike, I know you will respond with "Marriage has been defined for 5,000 years in a certain way and words have meaning." I understand that but as people we evolve and so should our language. Anyway, I am not here to convince anyone.

What I am here to say is that a certain amount of protest is a very American response to our citizens, even when they are in the minority (or especially when they are the minority), feeling slighted by the government. Our country was founded on those principles. BUT...BUT...BUT where these protestors are starting to lose me is when they are targeting churches and individual people at their places of business and worship.

Threats are not acceptable. Demonstrations and political discourse are a good thing...threatening to burn a church down is repulsive and criminal.

The Prop 8 crowd should be aware that there are a significant number of people who voted no who are not impressed with this behavior. All they are doing is reinforcing the "I told you so..." attitude with the people who approved Prop 8.
